10月21日（木）の５時間目、６時間目に本校に勤務しているOliver Smith 先生による講演会がありました。

 

今回は国際学科の行事であるＹＳＦのテーマ「自然共生」に関して知識を深めることを目的としています。

 

 

 

講演のタイトルは、 “Psychological Lesson from the Global Pandemic.”

 

 

コロナウイルスのパンデミックに伴い、人間が誤った情報を脳内で組み立ててしまうのか、それが人間の行動にどのような影響を与えるのかからレクチャーは始まり、物事を考える物差しとして、Rationality（事実に基づく考え方）Irrationality（感情に基づく考え方）を通して情報を見極める必要性を感じました。

 

気候変動、環境問題への取り組みも同様であり、

 

高校生として、人々の意識や行動を変えるために、きっかけ(Nudge) をどのように作り出すことができるのかをクラスで話し合いました。

 

 

約２時間の講演は、内容も抽象的な概念について考える場面もあり、決して簡単なものでありませんでしたが、これまで培ってきた英語力や思考力を発揮して内容を理解し、議論することができたと思います。

 

講演後の生徒のコメントより

I think environmental education could be a good Nudge for people, because I learned that we might be able to take action and change the world by a chance. I think some people have an interest in the environmental issues and they want to do something to solve those problems, however sometimes there is a few opportunities to do that. Moreover, there are many kinds of information related to the environment around us, so it could be difficult to get collect answers and they cannot take action immediately. Therefore, I think to provide places or opportunities where can learn about things related to the environment is important to encourage those people who want to take the first step toward actions. On the other hand, society could be a Sludge because as Oli sensei mentioned today's lecture, people tend to believe things by irrationality and affected by public opinions. If there is nothing which recommend environmental conservation, it's meaningless. Therefore I guess surrounding environment is related to Nudge and Sludge.

 

 

 

In order to tell people about serious situation in the world and promote to take action, we should make the “nudge” system. For example, the system that is fun to use or get the profit while taking environmentally friendly action. It’s always difficult for people to start new habit (in YSF, that is eco-friendly action) if there are no direct benefits, even if they want to protect the environment. Therefore, when we want to give people the first step to save the earth, we should consider unique action or system that people can enjoy.
